Why Sell Privately..?
The main reason for selling your home privately is to save money. By not paying agents commissions you can save anywhere from £500 up to £10000 or more depending on the value of the home you are selling. Estate Agents charge you a percentage of the value of your property – this is to mask the fact that this can run into thousands of pounds and also means that their fees can go up in line with house price inflation, therefore their pay is rising faster than anyone elses!!!
So if an agent sells your house, and puts in say 50 man hours of work managing to sell your house for £300,000 (bearing in mind they are selling for its MARKET VALUE and probably nothing more), by showing people through, answering phone calls, and placing your adverts in the newspaper. This means that you are effectively paying your agent £180 per hour (Assuming they charge 3% commission which is commonplace nowadays), for something that you could easily do yourself.
