Geography
Area is about 111,000 km2.Bulgaria has an amazing variety of landscape with the Rila mountains south of Sofia. The Rodopi mountains stretch east from Rila to Pirin along the border with Greece.
The population is about 8 million.
Sofia sits on a 500m high plateau at the foot of mount Vitosha and is the highest capital in Europe.
Varna is the largest city on the black sea coast region, Here there are beaches and parks. In the summer the seaside gardens come to life with outdoor cafes,beachside beer halls and late night clubs. In June to August the Varna Summer Festival takes place.
Climate
Cold ,damp winters and hot dry summers. Rainfall highest in mountains. Ideal winter weather for skiing. Temperatures across Bulgaria vary greatly, hitting it up to 35c in summer on the coast and dropping to well below freezing in the snowy mountains.

Airports
Bulgaria is approximately 3hours flying time from the UK.
Fly to Bourgas airport for the Black Sea resort area.Fly to Sofia for Bansko or Borovets in the Pirin mountains.
British airways(Sofia and Varna), Wizz air(Sofia and Bourgas), Bulgaria air(Sofia) all fly to Bulgaria.
For the skiing Bansko and Borovets are about 2hours drive from the the capital. On the black sea coast golf courses are starting to be developed such as sunny beach and St Vlas resort.
